Kylie is the youngest of the Kardashian-Jenner clan’s siblings. Her famous half-sister Kim became a mother for the third time in January. To the applause of more than 100 medal winners at international championships, national coach Sigurdsson promised not to give up at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro (August 5th to 21st): « We are a work force – and will continue to work. »

Young athletes in particular are often brought up very disciplined by their parents. Success comes first. At Franziska van Almsick there is no pressure at all when it comes to the next generation. 

According to the former top swimmer, it is not important whether her children share their passion for their sport. « I don’t care whether you become an opera singer, do ballet or play triangle. I’m relatively dispassionate, » she told Closer magazine.

« You should be able to swim properly »

Nevertheless, she is happy that her two sons Don Hugo and Mo Vito are « water rats ». « You will be able to swim properly until the end of your life, I will take care of that, » said Franzi van Almsick.

At the age of five and eleven, they are still quite small. It is therefore particularly important to the 40-year-old to protect her from possible accidents in the swimming pool and to take care of her at all times. « You shouldn’t take your eyes off your children for a minute in the water! Believing that they can swim and then lying on the lounger with a book can be fatal, » emphasized the mother of two. « I know water. It is a great love, but I also know that it can be unforgivable and dangerous. »

Multiple world and European champion 

Franziska van Almsick has been with her partner, the entrepreneur Jürgen B. Harder, since 2005. He is also the father of the two sons. Born in East Berlin, she is multiple world and European champion in freestyle. She got a total of 18 gold medals and two titles at world championships. After the Olympic Games in Athens in 2001, she ended her career as an active athlete. Since then she has been a co-commentator for ARD, stood as an expert in front of the camera, was deputy chairman of the board of Deutsche Sporthilfe, or lent her voice to characters in films such as « Cars » or « Findet Dorie ».

If you believe various media reports, you might think that Franziska van Almsick’s love life is like a rollercoaster ride. There is always talk of separation. But even if everything is not always rosy in the relationship, giving up is out of the question for the couple.

« That’s just life. If there’s a stone in the way, I can either stop, turn around and run away. Or I get it out of the way. I’m for the latter, » she said in an interview.

Together through thick and thin

The couple has been going through thick and thin together since 2005, mastering a lot of ups and downs. « Between me and my husband there has never been anything different from what it is now. Neither divorced, separated, married. Nothing! We have been a family for eleven years, and nothing has changed for us in the last year. »

The 38-year-old is certain: « When you’ve gone through difficult times, you slide closer together. » Far too many couples these days would rather break up than work on the relationship. « There are simply times in life when you have to go through it with gritted teeth. »

Looks like the ex-swimming star has found the man for life. But when does Franzi finally want to say «  I do  » to her dream prince?

« If you stop asking about the wedding, then we will probably dare to take this step. As long as everyone expects us to get married, we won’t. If everyone thinks that my husband and I will break up, then we will get married ! Although … then we should have been married long ago, right? « 

At « Der Quiz-Champion » Franziska van Almsick stands behind the desk as a juror in the field of sports and gambled against the candidates for 100,000 euros. In an interview with t-online.de, she revealed what she would have liked to have done instead of a sports career and what actually became of her plans – to catch up on the Abitur.

As a swimmer, Franziska van Almsick celebrated numerous successes in the 1990s, until she gave up her active sports career in 2004. Today, however, the former Olympic participant no longer even counts swimming among her hobbies.

Children do not follow in their footsteps

« Today I hardly go swimming anymore, even if I still love the element of water. When I go into the water, then with my children or on vacation by the sea or in the evening in the bathtub », says the 39-year-old .

It’s the same with their children. For the time being, the offspring of the swimming world champion does not intend to follow in her footsteps. Ten-year-old Don Hugo is more interested in football. The three-year-old Mo Vito is a water rat, but he would not become a swimmer. 

Abitur at 40

Franzi, on the other hand, already knew where the journey was going at the age of five. The blonde never wanted to take any other career path. « I never really thought about that at the time, » she revealed. « I turned my hobby into a job very early on. I’m very grateful for that. » But: « If I hadn’t become a swimmer, I would have loved to study medicine. » 

She doesn’t regret her decision to become a top athlete. Nevertheless, Franzi now wants to catch up on her Abitur. « The plans to do my Abitur are still current and I will do that in the foreseeable future, because in my mid-40s I no longer want to sit in an Abitur class. »

Your decision sounds sensible: Franziska van Almsick has put her wedding plans on hold until she has finished high school. The former competitive swimmer is currently studying if she finds the time. She told the magazine « FRAU IM SPIEGEL »: « I hope to graduate soon, but graduating with a baby is not that easy. »

She chose German, mathematics, English and history as major subjects, plus four minor subjects. Van Almsick now has a tight program and can usually only learn when her children are in bed: « A teacher comes to me twice a week. »

Wedding after nine years of wild marriage?

When asked how she thinks about her wedding plans, the 36-year-old replies: « That is definitely an issue. It will happen. I have already found the right man. But first I want to have my Abitur in my pocket.  »

Van Almsick has been in a relationship with her boyfriend, the entrepreneur Jürgen B. Harder, since 2005. The two have two sons together, seven-year-old Don Hugo and 19-month-old Mo Vito.
